C. V. Wood developed the town as president of McCulloch Oil, and Robert P. McCulloch built the fountain in 1970. Running normally on two pumps it reaches about 300 feet; with all three it can reach 560. The town incorporated in 1989 and borders the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and Scottsdale.
